Janhvi's Cannes look sparks calls for her casting in The Royals

Actors Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter stole the spotlight on the Cannes 2025 red carpet, igniting a wave of excitement among fans of the 'Dhadak' pair. The actors, along with co-star Vishal Jethwa, director Neeraj Ghaywan, and producer Karan Johar, attended the world premiere of their film Homebound at the prestigious film festival.

The occasion marked a first-time Cannes appearance for Janhvi, Ishaan, Vishal, and Johar.

For Ghaywan, it was a special return to the Croisette, nearly a decade after his acclaimed debut Masaan was screened and honoured at Cannes in 2015.For her big appearance, Janhvi dazzled in a custom blush pink Tarun Tahiliani gown, complete with soft drapes, intricate detailing, and an elegant hood that channelled royal splendour. The ethereal ensemble drew instant comparisons to a modern-day queen — or as many fans put it, a “maharani.”

Complementing her look, Ishaan wore a sleek velvet bandhgala by Gaurav Gupta, striking a regal presence of his own. The two, appearing together on the red carpet for the first time in years, sent social media into overdrive, with some even calling for the duo to star together in the series The Royals.“They look like a bride and groom,” wrote one user. Another exclaimed, “Janhvi Kapoor at the Cannes Film Festival is literally giving maharani vibes!” But the most viral comment came from a fan campaigning for the pair to reunite on screen, writing, “I was robbed off Janhvi-Ishaan in The Royals!”

Before hitting the red carpet, Janhvi was spotted greeting her fans in Cannes. For the day outing, Janhvi kept it casual yet stylish as she stepped out in the French city in a matching top and skirt by the Italian brand Miu Miu. Janhvi's boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya, and sister, Khushi Kapoor, are also in Cannes to cheer for her at her Cannes debut.
