In light of the severe weather conditions forecasted across Goa, the Directorate of Education has declared a holiday for all schools in the state today. The decision follows an alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in various regions of Goa.Issued through an official circular by the Government of Goa’s Directorate of Education, the announcement states that the closure applies to both students and teaching staff. However, teachers assigned for training programmes are required to report as scheduled.Decision taken keeping children's safety in mindThe circular, numbered Acad/ CIR/375/2023/2119 and dated July 3, 2025, was signed by Director of Education Shailesh R.

It mentions that the move was taken “in view of the incessant rain and alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Goa Centre.” The government has prioritised the safety of schoolchildren, acknowledging that travel during intense rain could pose serious risks.The notice also extends the holiday to school staff, specifically mentioning that the closure is applicable to “students as well as for the teachers.”

However, it makes a clear exception for those teachers who have been deputed for training purposes, stating that they must report for duty as scheduled.Advisory for students during the school closureIn addition to announcing the closure, the circular contains an important advisory for students. All students have been strongly urged to remain indoors and not to venture out unnecessarily. The department has specifically advised avoiding flooded streets, riversides, and other potentially hazardous areas, in light of the unpredictable nature of the weather.This precautionary step is a response to the IMD’s forecast, which signals a significant rainfall event across Goa. The state is known to experience intense monsoon spells, and such warnings are taken seriously, especially where children’s welfare is concerned.
