Elijah Blue Allman, the son of music icon Cher and the late Gregg Allman, was rushed to hospital over the weekend after suffering an apparent overdose in Southern California, TMZ reports.Sources told the entertainment portal that the incident occurred early Saturday morning in Joshua Tree, where emergency services transported the 47-year-old to a nearby hospital. While it is unclear what kind of drugs he was using at the time of the overdose, Allman is reportedly still in hospital and receiving medical care. Insiders noted that he was "very lucky to have survived."Cher, who has long expressed concern for her son’s well-being, is said to be fully focused on his recovery.Allman has openly discussed his decades-long struggle with addiction and substance abuse. In a 2014 interview, he revealed he began using drugs at the age of 11 and had previously experienced several near-fatal overdoses. “I did have some close calls and some moments of really feeling at the edge of mortality,” he said at the time.In 2023, Cher filed for conservatorship of Elijah’s finances, citing his mental health and battle with substance abuse.
She filed for conservatorship saying that her son is "substantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues." At the time, Elijah stated that he didn't need to be under a conservatorship arguing that he was 'sober' and paying his bills and committed to managing payments from his later father Gregg Allman's estate. The legal dispute was later resolved out of court, with Cher dismissing the case without prejudice—allowing her the option to refile if needed.
