Vidya Balan says studios feel safer to bet on male-led films post pandemic, reveals she would love to play the therapist in 'Adolescence'

Vidya Balan is known for always playing some really strong and impactful characters. The actress was last seen in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' with Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit. Her choices lately are a testament to the fact that she's preferring quality over quantity.

In a recent interview, the actress opened up on the kind of roles she sees herself doing when it comes to global cinema.

She also picked three of her favourite roles she's done.Vidya said in an interview with Deadline, "I’d love to play (a character like) the therapist in Adolescence. That’s on the top of my mind at this point. I would love to do comedy. I absolutely loved Kate Winslet in The Regime. I also love the work Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are doing."When further asked to choose her top three roles, she spoke about 'Paa' where she played Amitabh Bachchan's mother. In the film, Bachchan played a 12-year old boy suffering from a genetic condition called Progeria. Abhishek Bachchan played Big B's father in the film. Vidya then pointed out her titular role in 'Shakuntala Devi' and then 'Tumhari Sulu'.'The Dirty Picture' actress said, "In each of these films, there was an opportunity for me to do something different as an actor.

They were well fleshed-out characters, and yet they were great scripts and very engaging, entertaining films."

In the same interview, Vidya also spoke about how it's time that female-led movies make a comeback in cinema as they are lost after Covid. She said, "The studios feel it would be safer to bet on the historically male-led films. In my opinion, this calls for a reinvention in the female-led film space.”
