The funeral of prominent businessman Sunjay Kapur, former husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, may face delays due to legal formalities involving his US citizenship, sources close to the family have confirmed.Sunjay Kapur, 53, died on June 12 (Thursday) after suffering a heart attack during a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in England. According to insiders, the complication arises from the fact that Kapur was a US citizen who passed away in the UK, leading to an extended legal process before his body can be flown to India for the final rites.Father-in-law confirms funeral will be held in DelhiAshok Sachdev, Sunjay’s father-in-law and father of his current wife Priya Sachdev, told NDTV that the funeral will take place in Delhi.
“The postmortem is currently underway. Once the paperwork is complete, the body will be brought to India for the last rites,” he stated.Sunjay is survived by his wife Priya Sachdev and their son Azarias. He also shared two children—Samaira and Kiaan—with Karisma Kapoor.Kapur was playing a match between his team Aureus and rival team Sujan, owned by hotelier Jaisal Singh, when he reportedly began feeling uneasy. According to eyewitnesses, he stepped off the field after experiencing discomfort.
It is believed that he accidentally swallowed a bee during the game, and the sting triggered a fatal heart attack.Despite immediate medical assistance, Sunjay could not be revived.
