Salman Khan starrer '
Sikandar
' which released on Eid opened at Rs 26 crore on Sunday which was day 1. The film did see a growth on Eid as the shows went housefull in some centres. While there is more demand of the film in some cinemas, the film has been replaced in many theatres due to low demand. As per a report, many shows of the movie haven't got cancelled in Mumbai, in fact, in theatres like G7 multiplex (which includes Gaeity-Galaxy), the shows have been increased. But in many theatres at Surat, Indore and more, the film has been replaced.
A trade analyst was quoted saying by Bollywood Hungama, "We didn’t find any instance of the show getting cancelled in Mumbai. There were shows where the number of viewers was in single digits but on the first two days, no show got cancelled due to no audience. However, the same happened in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore etc., especially in areas where there was little or no Eid effect.”
The report suggested that two night shows have been replaced at a cinema hall in Surat with the Gujarati movie, 'All The Best Pandya' and 'Umbarro'. Both these Gujarati films are getting good footfalls, especially Umbarro despite being in its 9th week.
However, in Mumbai single screens, 'Sikandar' is doing well. In the two biggest singe screens, the 991-seater Gaiety and 818-seater Galaxy, the shows on Eid went housefull. Thows were also accommodated in the 105-seater Gossip. L2 Empuraan’s Hindi version was earlier playing in both Gossip as well as the 255-seater Gemini. The Mohanlal film will now be showcased only in Gemini, as per the report.
However, in south Mumbai, the night shows of 'Sikandar' have been cancelled at the PVR Inox Nariman Point and and Metro Inox and replaced by 'The
Diplomat
'.
