Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday tore into Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his population control remarks and questioned the silence of I.N.D.I.A bloc on it.

Addressing a political rally in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, PM Modi said: “A senior leader of the I.N.D.I alliance, ‘Ghamandiya Gathbandhan’ used indecent language for women inside Assembly yesterday. They are not ashamed. No leader of the I.N.D.I.A bloc said a single word against it. People who think like this about women, can they do anything good for you?”

He further said, Nitish Kumar, “in the presence of mothers and sisters in Bihar Assembly, spoke such vulgar language which cannot be imagined.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Nitish Kumar offered an explanation in the Bihar Assembly and said "I have expressed my regret while talking to journalists outside the House. I am ready to do so again. If my words have caused any hurt, I condemn myself."

"The context in which I had made the remarks must not be lost sight of. I have always been a strong votary of women's education and it was a eureka moment for me when I saw a direct correlation between education levels among women and fertility rate," the Bihar CM added.
