However, while commentating, Hussain shared the update: "Rishabh Pant’s index finger on the left hand is injured. He has split his fingernail, which is painful, but the finger isn’t broken. It is being treated with ice in the dressing room."The incident occurred in the 34th over when Pant took a blow to the fingertips on his left hand while attempting to stop a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that was fired down the leg side to Ollie Pope.
Pant, who dived to stop the ball, was visibly in pain while receiving treatment from physio Kamlesh Jain, even after his fingers were heavily taped up.
Although Pant stayed on for the remainder of the over, broadcast visuals showed Dhruv Jurel doing some wicketkeeping drills. Once the over concluded — with Root and Pope bringing up a 50-run stand for the third wicket — Pant walked off the field for further treatment, and Jurel took over the gloves.

Jurel had kept wickets for India in three Tests during the home series against England in 2024 and had also kept for India A in matches against the England Lions before this five-match Test series began. He had previously replaced Pant behind the stumps when the latter injured his knee during the Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru in October 2024.
