‘He abused me, so I abused him back’

Esha Gupta has finally addressed the long-standing rumours of a bitter fallout with filmmaker Sajid Khan during the making of Humshakals. The actress shared that the dynamic between them soured unexpectedly.

“Vibes eventually set par kharaab ho chuke the,” she revealed, admitting she hadn’t foreseen the situation escalating the way it did.A confrontation that changed everythingAccording to Esha, the turning point came during a heated altercation with the director. “I had a fight. Sajid Khan and I were not at all on the same page, and we ended up having a proper fight,” she told Siddharth Kannan. What triggered her the most was being verbally abused by him.

“See, I don’t like people abusing me. You should always treat people the way you want them to treat you. It’s that simple. Unhone mujhe gaali di… phir maine bhi di.

While she refrained from diving into specifics, Esha hinted that Sajid’s outburst came from a place of frustration. “Kuch log baat karne se pehle sochte nahi hai... frustrated hote hai,” she said, adding, “I don’t want to talk about that because I’ve moved on from it.”

She walked off set, but stayed in the filmDespite the tense exchange, Esha continued shooting for the film, but not before taking a firm stand. “I walked out of the set. I went home. I didn’t stay. I had also made up my mind to exit the film,” she recalled. However, it was the film’s producer who first apologised to her, even before Sajid, prompting her to return.Still, the project didn’t leave a good taste. When the team finally watched Humshakals, Esha said, “We knew it was going to be a huge disaster.”

Esha Gupta: 'I was told my nose is round, people also advised me to get injections for fair skin'

‘He never tried anything inappropriate with me’Years later, Sajid Khan’s name emerged in the #MeToo movement, with several women accusing him of sexual misconduct. But Esha clarified she was never a victim of that nature. “No, that way I’ll give him credit,” she said. In fact, a newspaper had wrongly added her name to Sajid’s alleged dating history. “I made sure they apologized to me for that.”She continued, “I’ve never said anything in relation to MeToo about Sajid. In fact, when those allegations started coming out, someone even added my name to the list of people who accused him. I said, ‘No.’ Dekhiye, jahan jisne jo galti ki hai woh bolo. Like I’m openly saying now that he abused me. But Sajid never tried any of those [sexual misconduct] things with me. So I will not say that about him.”
