Preview:
It’s time for the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup in India. Excitement is in the air, and now, with all the off-field talks and on-field preparations done and dusted, it’s time for the tournament proper to get underway.

Defending champions England lock horns against New Zealand in the opening match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Four years on from that epic finale at Lord’s where England emerged victorious in dramatic fashion, nobody could have asked for a more fitting way to kickstart the 2023 edition.

England are coming on the back of a 3-1 series win at home against the Black Caps. The return of Ben Stokes adds a huge boost to the England side, however, the all-rounder is unavailable for the clash against New Zealand after sustaining a hip injury.

New Zealand, meanwhile, have issues of their own. Kane Williamson and Tim Southee will miss the England clash with respective injuries. Tom Latham will lead the Kiwis in Williamson’s absence.

Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway will have their task cut out in the New Zealand top order, that is also bolstered by skipper Latham.

England: Jos Buttler (captain & wk), Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley, Gus Atkinson.
