NEW DELHI:

Shashwat Rawat

's unbeaten 122 led a remarkable recovery for

India A

, steering them to 224 for seven against

India C

on day one of their

Duleep Trophy

clash in Anantapur on Thursday.
The left-handed batter from Baroda found support only from Shams Mulani, who contributed 44 off 76 balls, after India A was reduced to 36 for five by the 20th over.

Last game's centurion Pratham Singh, captain Mayank Agarwal, Tilak Varma, and Riyan Parag all fell cheaply, unable to reach double digits.
Pacer Anshul Kamboj, who grabbed eight wickets in an innings last week, stood out again for India C.

Rawat's innings was memorable, marked by 15 fours in his unbeaten 235-ball effort. The southpaw displayed a range of delightful shots, including straight drives, cover drives, and reverse sweeps against the spinners.
He forged a crucial 87-run partnership with bowling all-rounder Mulani, who came to the team’s rescue with the bat following his match-winning performance in the previous game.
India C, atop the Duleep Trophy standings with nine points, will aim to bowl out India A quickly on day two.
India A skipper Mayank Agarwal has had a forgettable tournament, with his lean run continuing Thursday. Similarly, Riyan Parag has struggled to spend significant time at the crease despite showing promise.
Brief scores: 224/7 in 77 overs (Shashwat Rawat 122 batting, Shams Mulani 44; Anshul Kamboj 3/40, Vijaykumar Vyshak 2/33).
