The qualification process for the 2025 edition was determined by the 2023 ODI World Cup standings. The top eight teams from the 10-team points table, including host Pakistan, qualified for the Champions Trophy. The biggest absentee in Pakistan and Dubai are the 2004 champions West Indies.
The teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Group B includes Australia, Afghanistan, England, and South Africa.
Afghanistan are making their Champions Trophy debut after their impressive performance in the ODI World Cup, where they defeated England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They recently achieved their first semi-finals appearance in an ICC tournament during the T20 World Cup last year.
