In a candid interview on Connect Cine's YouTube channel, Zaheer praised Sonakshi’s portrayal of Fareedan, admitting he found her “very scary” in the series. “I love her in Heeramandi as the negative (character). Amazing! But just watching you in Heeramandi, I was like, oh, she is very scary, bro,” Zaheer said, emphasizing her ability to convey complex emotions in the series, which marked Bhansali’s OTT debut.
While Zaheer acknowledged her brilliant performances in critically acclaimed films like Lootera (2013), he admitted he prefers seeing her in vibrant and high-energy roles from her commercial hits like R…Rajkumar (2013). “Everyone says Lootera and all these films, and I agree her performance was great, but I don’t like her when she’s sad. I love her in movies where she has that energy,” he added.
Zaheer and Sonakshi tied the knot earlier this year and have since become one of Bollywood’s most adored couples. Their mutual admiration and candid revelations about each other often win hearts.
'Heeramandi', which premiered in 2024, is a period drama centered on the lives of courtesans in pre-independent India. It features an ensemble cast, including Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. Sonakshi’s nuanced performance as Fareedan, a character with shades of grey, earned critical acclaim.
