Abhishek Bachchan, the prominent actor in Bollywood, has had a tumultuous ride throughout his career. While the 49-year-old has been a part of blockbuster franchises, he once opened up about going through a slump after his projects were not doing well in numbers, leading to the makers not even picking up his call.
Abhishek Bachchan opens up about Nepotism...
In a 2023 candid interview with Ranveer Allahbadia in his podcast, Bachchan opened up about nepotism and how it affects the budget of the project. While sharing how the structure works, he also shared how he has been on the other side of fame, where he lost a countless number of film projects after his previous ones did not do well in the market.“I have a lot of friends who are from the industry, who are children of prominent actors, who haven’t managed to carve a niche for themselves, and they haven’t been given a chance.
Please let me tell you, and please, I’m saying this with absolute humility, if you are given that ‘chance,’ there is a practical reason behind it,” he said in the podcast.
How do the actors get a job in a project?
The reason - it’s all about the business, and it always has been about the returns. When the makers think about the cast, it’s about whether this person (actor) brings returns to the film. If the person cannot fulfil the criteria, they won’t get the job.
Speaking from personal experience, Bachchan went on to say that he has been on the receiving end. “I have been at the end, where I was getting calls from certain makers, and six months later, when my films haven’t done well…not only do they not pick up your phone calls; they don’t call back. The important thing is to understand that it’s not personal,” Abhishek Bachchan said, before adding, “If you’re worth it, they will call you.
