Weekly poll results: Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is shaping up to be a hit, Pura 70 tops the Pro model

The lack of Google Play Store on the Huawei Pura 70 series is not ideal but not a deal-breaker either – per the comments under last week’s poll, some are already using Google-less Huawei phones and are eyeing the new series. That said, it is a no-go for others as some vital apps (e.g. local banking apps) are missing, but it seems like Huawei did a good job of stocking up the App Gallery.

So, what do people think of the four phones? Well, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is a blockbuster in the making with half of voters expressing interest in it and only a fraction of those are waiting on reviews to make a final decision. The primary complaints were the sub-QHD resolution of the display (all four are around 1260p+) and the chipset that can’t match the best offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. Huawei did an impressive job on its own, but it does have some catching up to do.

Other complaints were about the price, which is already high in China and is even higher elsewhere – Huawei announced the global pricing of three models and the Ultra is €1,500 (for a 16/512GB unit). Not too surprising, a Xiaomi 14 Ultra is €1,500 too and the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at €1,450.

The Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Pro+ had a tougher time at it – a third of voters are interested, but they need some convincing. You can check out our hands-on review for more details on the two phones. Note that the Pro+ is not available globally, but the main difference from the Pro is satellite calling on a system not available outside of China, so no surprise here. The Pura 70 Pro is priced at €1,200 for a 12/512GB unit and will be available in late May.

Interestingly, the vanilla Huawei Pura 70 is proving to be a more popular pick than its Pro sibling – not as popular as the Ultra, but still. Here again the no-Google thing is an issue for some but not all. Instead, things circle back to screen resolution, chipset and other things – that triangular camera island looks unappealing to some. An embattled Huawei is turning things around – the Huawei P60 Pro had a lot more to prove as a previous poll showed that half the people interested in it were waiting for detailed reviews. It seems that the company has earned back the trust of consumers as there was a lot less uncertainty around the newly christened Pura 70 series. Whether the company hits its 10 million units shipped target remains to be seen, of course, but it is off to a good start.
