NEW DELHI: Nitish Kumar Reddy has been a revelation with the bat in this edition of the
Border-Gavaskar Trophy
series.
Having made his debut in the Perth Test, Reddy had scores of 41, 38*, 42, 42 and 16 heading into the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the
Melbourne Cricket Ground
.
Reddy arrived at the crease at the dismissal of Rishabh Pant with India at 191/6 with the follow-on threat still looming large on Day 3 of the fourth Test on Saturday.
But Reddy showed remarkable application and temperament to not only score his maiden Test fifty but alongwith Washington Sundar also took India over the follow-on mark.
Reddy lofted a full delivery from Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc over the vacant point region and the ball raced away to the boundary to reach his maiden half-century in
Test cricket
.
After reaching the landmark, Reddy did the Pushpa (Indian movie) "Thaggede le" celebration with his bat, evoking laughter and admiration from the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
