Director
Karan Boolani
has set the record straight, emphasizing that his latest film, 'Thank You For Coming,' is not a sequel to 'Veere Di Wedding.' The small yet impactful film, featuring Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh, Shibani Bedi, and more, is making waves at the box office, defying competition from multiple releases. Produced by Anil Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, and Rhea Kapoor, the film has struck a chord with audiences.
In an exclusive interview with midday, Karan Boolani shared insights into the genesis of 'Thank You For Coming.' The film's concept was born around 4-5 years ago when Rhea Kapoor, Karan's wife, engaged in a discussion with Radhika Anand about a unique storyline. This story centered on a woman experiencing an unexpected moment of pleasure without recollection, formed the foundation for the film's narrative.
Karan Boolani responded to questions about whether the characters in 'Thank You For Coming' were inspired by real-life individuals, stating that while they draw inspiration from real life, it's difficult to pinpoint specific sources. Filmmakers often draw elements from the lives of friends and the world around them to create relatable and authentic characters.
Regarding the casting process, Karan credited casting director Abhimanyu for their meticulous selection of both experienced and inexperienced actors, including popular social media influencers. He noted that casting decisions were influenced by the evolving landscape of storytelling and the diverse mediums through which people consume content.
Karan Boolani also discussed the film's reception, emphasizing that labels like "female-oriented" or "male-oriented" are imposed by external perceptions and don't drive his creative process. He expressed his commitment to storytelling that excites, entertains, and moves audiences, regardless of gender-based categorizations.
As for the possibility of a 'Thank You For Coming' sequel, Karan stated that he currently has no plans for one, as the film's story concludes where it does. He also shared his perspective on box office clashes, highlighting that the film industry's ultimate goal is to connect with and entertain audiences, regardless of competition.
