Choice filling for 7.5% government school quota begins, seat allotment releasing tomorrow

TNEA 2025 choice filling for 7.5% government school quota candidates begins.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has started the choice-filling process for TNEA 2025 under the 7.5% government school quota. Eligible candidates who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools can now enter their preferred college and course choices online.

The portal opened on July 7 at 10 AM and will close the same day at 7 PM. This special counselling round is meant to support students from government schools in securing engineering seats. Tentative allotment results will be announced tomorrow, July 8, at 7 AM. This is part of the overall Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling process for undergraduate engineering courses across the state.

Choice filling for 7.5% govt school quota candidates

This round of counselling is part of the special reservation process and is aimed at students who studied from Class 6 to Class 12 in government schools in Tamil Nadu.

The 7.5% quota was introduced to address disparities in higher education access and includes sub-reservations for categories such as differently abled students, children of ex-servicemen, and eminent sportspersons.

Tentative seat allotment release date and time

The TNEA 2025 authorities will release the tentative seat allotment list on July 8 at 7 AM. After reviewing the allotment, candidates will have until 5 PM on the same day to either confirm their seat, refuse the allotment, or opt for upward movement in subsequent rounds.

A final provisional allotment list will be published by 9 PM on July 8. Candidates are strongly advised to monitor the TNEA portal regularly for updates and ensure that they act within the designated timelines.

Counselling timeline and what’s next

Following this special round, TNEA 2025 will conduct general special reservation counselling for other categories (e.g., persons with disabilities, sports, ex-servicemen) from July 9 to 11. The general counselling round, which includes both government school and vocational stream candidates, will take place from July 14 to 19.

Supplementary and SC-category counselling rounds will follow in late July and August.

Advisory for candidates

Candidates should prioritize their college and branch preferences based on their rank, past year cutoffs, and seat availability. Those dissatisfied with their initial allotment should use the upward movement option judiciously. All actions—choice entry, confirmation, and refusal—must be completed within the deadlines to ensure inclusion in the counselling process. For updated schedules, guidelines, and allotment results, students must visit the official portal: www.tneaonline.org.
