Released in the early 2000s, Saif Ali Khan and Priety Zinta starrer ‘Kya Kehna’ turned 25 on Monday. The story that was packed with love, drama, courage, and more, even after more than two decades, is close to Saif Ali Khan’s heart. However, did you know that Saif was never a fan of the said movie’s title?
Saif Ali Khan got ‘Kya Kehna’ because another actor didn’t show up!
“I never liked the title.
And I’m saying it for the first time. Odd way I got the film,” said Saif in an exclusive conversation. “Ramesh Tauraniji and Kundan Shahji came in saying they had a problem. Their actor had left! And the slot was empty. I had to report the next day in my own clothes,” he revealed while sharing how he bagged the movie in the first place. Further, speaking about his character arc, Saif said, “Kundan made it all deep! The motivations and actions of my character, Rahul Modi.
And Kundan was so clever! A great combination of an intellectual mind and a commercial script.”He continued, “Kundanji added a death wish, a streak of pain to my character. Made it deeper than just a bad boy: he made him a troubled boy. Good music also helped. Kya Kehna was a surprise success.”
The sweet memory of young Sara Ali Khan visiting her dad, Saif Ali Khan, on the sets
In our conversation, Saif Ali Khan opened the trunk of memories, and one of the sweetest had a mention of his daughter Sara Ali Khan.
“My daughter Sara, who was just a child back then, came to visit the sets. The cabbies refused payment because she was too cute. I remember it all.”

The unfortunate accident and the pool of blood on the sets of ‘Kya Kehna’
In the movie ‘Kya Kehna’, Saif Ali Khan actually gave his sweat and BLOOD, as he had a very serious accident on the set. Speaking about the same, the actor said, “I had a bike stunt to do and had an accident. My head split open on a rock.”One would wonder why the star did his own stunt, where usually such acts are performed by body doubles.
“They had a dupe, but he didn’t look like me at all. So I tried the jump. It seemed okay on the beach. But on wet grass…,” he explained.“I’m lying there in a pool of blood, and some people want to take pictures. My co-star and buddy, Preity Zinta, took me to Breach Candy to Dr Pandya. He saved my life. Another memory, though a far less dangerous one,” continued the actor.
The story of the leather pants
Sharing another memory, or let’s say a funny memory, Saif told us, “While filming a song, I tore my pants. Leather black pants. You can see it in the film. Miss Zinta was always a buddy, and she made it fun.”It would not be incorrect to say that, as ‘Kya Kehna’ celebrates 25 years, Saif Ali Khan’s trip down memory lane has offered us a heartwarming and humorous glimpse into the film's journey.
