OnePlus has announced that it is also getting aboard the AI bandwagon. While the company had previously announced a couple of AI features, today it is announcing a much wider suite of functionality and hardware integration under the new OnePlus AI brand.
The new AI features will debut on the upcoming OnePlus 13s. The phone has a dedicated button on the side called the Plus Key, which replaces OnePlus' iconic Alert slider. This button will let you access other features but will also play a key role in enabling one of the major features of this new endeavor.
OnePlus calls this the AI Mind Space. This feature can be activated by pressing and holding the Plus Key (when set to the Mind Space function). Using something called the AI Plus Mind, the feature scans the contents of the screen and helps you save, catalog, and recall that information later. It can, for example, find dates or events and add them to your calendar, detect places and locations and provide more information on them, or translate any foreign language that may be present.
All of this information gets saved within the Mind Space, where the screenshots and the extracted information are sorted for perusal. Using AI Search, users can also type a query based on the information in the Mind Space using natural language and later this year, AI Plus Mind will also automatically categorize saved content.
The AI Plus Mind will be debuting on the 13s but will arrive on the rest of the OnePlus 13 series via a future update, with plans on reaching other devices later. On devices without the Plus Key, the feature can be accessed by swiping up on the screen with three fingers.
Aside from Plus Mind, OnePlus also has a series of other AI features. AI VoiceScribe can record, summarize, and translate calls and meetings within popular messaging, video, and online meeting applications. AI Call Assistant (India exclusive) will offer options for automatic call summaries or real-time call translation during calls within the new OnePlus Dialer app.
AI Translation app consolidates all translation capabilities across text, live voice, camera-based, and screen translation into a single app. AI Search, as mentioned before, will let you search for any information on your phone using natural language query. AI Reframe, found within the Photos app, will analyze photo scenes and generate multiple creative framing options for users. Finally, AI Best Face 2.0 can automatically detect and correct issues like closed eyes and unflattering expressions.
OnePlus is also increasing its integration with Google Gemini, with Gemini now being able to work across OxygenOS apps, such as OnePlus Notes, Clock, and more. Gemini Live is also supported with camera and screen sharing.
With regard to privacy concerns, OnePlus states that it prioritizes on-device processing for highly sensitive information. When more intensive computation is required, it uses the company's Private Computing Cloud for a secure, encrypted environment for data processing. It uses a Trusted Execution Environment that spans the user's device, cloud servers, and the data transfer process.
Expect to learn more as we get closer to the launch taking place on June 5.
