“Mera Jee Jala…”: When Nawaz bought his daughter a Rs 2.5 Lakh Bag

In an industry known for its glitz and glamour, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has always stood apart — not just for his stellar performances, but also for his grounded, no-frills personality. Known for his humble beginnings and candid honesty, Nawazuddin recently shared a moment that struck a chord with many parents navigating the generational divide between simplicity and luxury.

In a candid interaction with Curly Tales, the Sacred Games actor spoke about a personal incident involving his daughter that left him both amused and exasperated. “My daughter Shora lives in DUbai. One day, she told me she wanted to buy a bag. I thought — how expensive could it be? Maybe Rs 15,000–Rs 20,000. These days, everything is expensive,” Nawaz recounted.But what followed was a classic generational clash of expectations.

The actor, who comes from modest beginnings in a small Uttar Pradesh village, accompanied his daughter to a mall in Dubai. Inside a luxury store, she picked up a bag of her choice. “I was okay till then. But when I asked for the price — it was Rs 2.5 lakh. Mera itna jee jala…,” Nawaz said with a wry smile.For Nawazuddin, who grew up in a time and environment where bags ranging from Rs 500- Rs 600 to Rs 2000-Rs 300 the idea of spending a quarter of a million rupees on a handbag felt like an unimaginable extravagance. Yet, like many doting fathers, he gave in. “It’s a waste of money, actually. But I bought it for her,” he admitted.Nawaz would be next seen in Dinesh Vijan backed Thama which will see him crossing swords with Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Paresh Rawal. The film is slated to hit the theaters on Diwali and would be in all possibility clashing with Kartik Aaryan’s yet to be titled film with Sreeleela- directed by Anurag Basu.
