Germany's Lufthansa airline group said Tuesday it had extended its suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv until at least June 8 amid the ongoing conflict. The decision was made "due to the current situation", Lufthansa said without giving further details, at a time Israel has also launched a major new military offensive in Gaza. The airline group, whose carriers include Eurowings, Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines, initially suspended its flights to Israel's main airport following a May 4 rocket attack launched by Yemen's Huthi rebels, and has extended the suspension several times. The missile landed near a car park at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport and injured six people, the first time a missile had penetrated the airport perimeter. The Huthis have repeatedly targeted Israel throughout its war with Hamas, saying they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians. On Monday, the Huthis said they would impose a "naval blockade" of the Israeli port of Haifa, warning ships to avoid the area.Israel's defence minister Israel Katz last week warned Huthi leaders that they face the same fate as Hamas leaders slain by Israel in Gaza if attacks continue.
