Tiger Shroff
’s inclusion in Rohit Shetty’s coveted cop universe was announced today with action packed posters of the star. His father is proud of Tiger’s fierce onscreen image and has revealed an interesting detail about the actor’s diet.
Jackie Shroff, whose effortless recipes are going viral, shared his signature dal-chawal
recipe
with ETimes, revealing that it is also a huge favourite of his son.
“My interest in
cooking
developed when I started eating and realising my mother's cooking. I used to wonder what she was doing because I was tiny to peep in. And then once I started growing taller and I started looking into how she cooks and what she cooks, that's when the interest started arising. And then with my children, I used to cook for them. I used to feed them ambe-halad with daal, chawal and ghee. It was the right thing to feed a child and is extra healthy."
Sharing details about the dish, he added, “In ambe-halad there is raw green garlic, raw turmeric, mint, green chilli without the seeds so that the kids don’t feel the spice and still get vitamin c, coriander, lemon, ginger and a little bit of salt. Then you need to wash the dal properly and while boiling it, take out the froth from top. The froth is uric acid. My mom used to take it out when the daal was cooked, if you don't remove that, you may get uric problems. And then you have to add hing, ginger and ajwain in it. Also, you cannot boil the rice in normal water, use drumstick water and add ajwain to it. That's the right amount of nutrition in the rice. Mix the three together, put cow ghee on top, a dash of lemon and a little bit of salt. This is very good for your health and immunity. I used to feed this to Tiger, it is easy and better than the junk.”
The doting dad cooks this signature recipe at home even now. Jackie Shroff added, “This is like maa ke haath ka khana, I still feed him sometimes. I make ladoos and keep it ready for him, mummy ke naam ka, papa ke naam ka. He would feel so happy about it. Dal-chawal is still his favourite and I often make it for him. Tiger never feeds me but always eats food cooked by me. I want to teach him but he is so busy with his work. He is in and out like a flash. But wherever he goes, he makes sure to eat home cooked meals.”
