Chennai Schools Closed Today Due to Heavy Rain: Schools across Chennai will remain closed today, November 12, following a heavy rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), according to news agency ANI. District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade confirmed the closure, stating, "A holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai today in view of the heavy rain forecast."
The IMD has predicted significant rainfall for parts of Tamil Nadu this week, with Tuesday’s forecast including heavy downpours in several areas.
These include Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.
Visuals shared by ANI showed heavy rainfall affecting multiple regions, including Tiruvallur and Chennai. Chennai is expected to experience continued rain due to an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, the city is likely to see moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms today, with maximum temperatures around 32–33°C and minimum temperatures near 25°C.
