01/6Ranbir Kapoor, Mira Rajput and others: When celebrities were called out for their 'problematic' statements
Unlike the regular population, celebrities are constantly under media scrutiny and fans analyse every move they make, or judge every word that comes out of their mouth. Of course as humans, it is practically impossible to be 'correct' all the time and celebs are no different - they often come under the scanner for saying something that for the general population, might come across as 'tone deaf'. Here's taking a look at some instances when celebs allegedly said something 'out of line' and were almost immediately attacked...
02/6Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor
The youngest child of Anil and Sunita Kapoor, Harsh is the sibling of Sonam and Rhea Kapoor. A few months back, Harsh took to his IG handle to post a lengthy note requesting people to buy only 'branded' sneakers, and asked them to stay away from cheap copies. Although Harsh did mention that people can buy them as per their budget, he attracted considerable ire from netizens, who said that at a time when people are struggling to get a decent job, having a branded pair of sneakers will be the last thing on their mind. Seeing the backlash, the Thar actor did issue a clarification soon after.
03/6Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir has often found himself in the eye of the storm when it comes to his statements, with many thinking that he is a 'red flag' of a husband, after Alia said that Ranbir does not like it when she get angry and raises her voice, or wears too much lipstick. According to a few reports, a couple of years back, Ranbir had allegedly said that he has no interest in politics since it makes no difference to his everyday life, since he has all that he needs at home. He was later trolled and even called out by celebs like Kangana Ranaut, who said that just because one is privileged, it does not mean that he/she can't discuss issues pertaining to common people.
04/6Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh, usually known for his gregarious personality, had once found himself in the eye of a storm when he reportedly said that while growing up, they did not have a lot of money and that they could only afford one international holiday each year, apart from a few domestic ones. Knowing that Ranveer's father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani is a giant businessman, the statement did not go down well with netizens at all, who accused the actor of downplaying his pretty obvious privilege.
05/6Mira Rajput
The Delhi girl attracted widespread media attention, when all of 20, she married actor Shahid Kapoor and moved to Mumbai. Mira and Shahid had their first child, a baby girl soon after and called her Misha. At an event Mira attended a few years back, she said that she is a happy stay-at-home mom and would not like to see her child for a few hours everyday and rush to work, adding that her child is no 'puppy'. Mira was heavily trolled by working women who said that unlike her, there are some who have to work to give their children a better future - it does not make them less of a mother and they don't equate their kids with 'puppies.'
06/6Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor recently acknowledged her 'privilege' but added that it is due to her 'karmas'. She said that it is not an insult and that her father Anil Kapoor has worked very hard to reach where he is now today. She also added that it is her karma that she was born into such an elite family.
