Actor Boman Irani’s directorial debut, 'The

Mehta Boys

', is streaming on OTT from February 7, and Boman recently opened up about the challenges of wearing multiple hats as a writer, director, producer, and actor in the film. He also spoke about envisioning Irrfan Khan playing a character in The Mehta Boys.
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Boman discussed the meticulous process of storytelling and how he refined his skills to ensure a seamless narrative. He stated that every word, line, and scene in the film serves a purpose, leaving no room for unnecessary elements. He emphasised the importance of respecting the audience’s intelligence and ensuring a well-structured narrative. While he was already familiar with acting and directing, he noted that writing was the main skill he had to refine. To perfect the execution, extensive camera rehearsals were conducted on set, allowing the team to focus on delivering seamless performances when the time came to shoot.

While Boman ultimately played the role of Shiv Mehta himself, he revealed that he had once considered the late Irrfan Khan for the part. “I was very keen on Irrfan bhai at one time. He was a sensitive man and a wonderful actor. Everybody told me that it would be better if I just sat in the director’s chair, but then when I realised that I knew the subject so well inside out, I finally decided to play the role. Also, the budget,” he said.

The Mehta Boys explores the intricate and often fragile dynamics of a father-son relationship, shedding light on emotional conflicts and unresolved tensions. Boman, who drew inspiration from real-life experiences, aimed to present an authentic portrayal of familial struggles. The movie features Avinash Tiwary and Shreya Chaudhry in key roles.
