, has sadly passed away. The singer, best known for her iconic song “Sara Pate Pate Fagun Name”, breathed her last on Friday at the age of 44. According to reports on various sites, she died after a prolonged battle with
colon cancer
. Hazarika breathed her last at 2:15 PM at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati, where she had been receiving treatment. As reportedly by livemint, the doctor said in a statement, “It’s a very sad day for all of us. We have lost Gayatri Hazarika. She passed away at our hospital at 2:15 PM today.”Hospital director Hitesh Baruah added, “She had been undergoing treatment for cancer and was admitted three days ago after her condition worsened. She was moved to the ICU yesterday, where she succumbed.”

Music composer Jayanta Kakoty, visibly shaken by the news, told News Live, "I rushed to Nemcare Hospital after hearing about Gayatri’s demise. She was an immensely talented singer. Her death at such a young age is a tremendous loss and creates a void that can never be filled.”Tributes poured in on social meida from leaders and public figures across Assam. Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora took to social media to express his grief, writing, “Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Gayatri Hazarika. Her soulful voice enriched Assamese music and touched countless hearts. A great loss. Heartfelt condolences to her family and fans. Om Shanti.”Minister of Water Resources Pijush Hazarika echoed the sentiment, stating, “Her soulful voice in timeless classics like ‘Sara Pate Pate Fagun Name’, ‘Eman Semeka Kathare’, and ‘Mathu Ejak Boroxun’ enriched Assam’s musical legacy. Heartfelt prayers for the eternal peace of her departed soul.”Several fans of the singer also took to their social media handles to honour Gayatri Hazarika and offer their tributes of love.
