Akshay faces backlash over new elaichi ad

, endorsing an elaichi brand has irked the internet.
Netizens are calling out Akshay Kumar for being the face of a brand which also promotes tobacco. One internet user wrote, “Akshay will have to hear from the people. He had said he won't do tobacco ads,” another comment read, "Unhappy, upset, he didn't stick to his words.” Netizens were questioning Akshay’s decision to feature in a new advertisement after his public apology last year.
In April 2022, Akshay Kumar’s first commercial for the brand, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn was released.

Netizens were quick to slam Akshay for the same. Soon after, the actor issued an apology, promising to give up his fees also for the same. In a lengthy Instagram post, Akshay had shared, “I am sorry. I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause.” He had also explained why the advertisements will not be pulled down and stated, “The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes.”
Akshay Kumar’s latest big screen release, Mission Raniganj has recorded a slow run at the box office. The film has earned Rs 12.15 crore in three days. Post this, Akshay will be seen in Soorarai Pottru remake, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sky Force and Hera Pheri 3. He also has a cameo appearance in Rohit Shetty helmed Singham Again.
