While this might sound surprising to some, Monkeys too do eat their own kind. While not the mates, but adult monkeys have been observed to intentionally kill and then eat the young ones.

While Chimpanzees eating their young ones is a rather rare phenomenon, a few years ago, a group of male chimpanzees were observed snatching a newborn Chimp and eating it. Scientists concluded that this was probably why chimp mothers isolate themselves before giving birth.

It has often been seen that female Hamsters eat their own babies, especially if they are stressed or threatened. When food resources are low, they eat their weakest baby to let the others survive.

The female black widow spider is famous for consuming its mate after the mating is successful. Many also believe that the male spider willingly sacrifices himself for the well-being of its children.

The female praying mantis is also famous for consuming its mate once the mating is complete. And similar to male black widow spiders, the male mantis also sacrifices himself.

Sand tiger sharks are known to eat up their own siblings while they are all still in the mother’s womb! According to research, this ensures that only the strongest few survive.
