Among the many wonders that happen in the wild and the animal kingdom, some of them are not particularly liked by humans. And while animals that glow in the dark are loved by all, those that eat their babies and mates, are not! Here we mention 10 such animals.

Monkeys

While this might sound surprising to some, Monkeys too do eat their own kind. While not the mates, but adult monkeys have been observed to intentionally kill and then eat the young ones.

Chimpanzees

While Chimpanzees eating their young ones is a rather rare phenomenon, a few years ago, a group of male chimpanzees were observed snatching a newborn Chimp and eating it. Scientists concluded that this was probably why chimp mothers isolate themselves before giving birth.

Hamsters

It has often been seen that female Hamsters eat their own babies, especially if they are stressed or threatened. When food resources are low, they eat their weakest baby to let the others survive.

Black widow spider

The female black widow spider is famous for consuming its mate after the mating is successful. Many also believe that the male spider willingly sacrifices himself for the well-being of its children.

Female praying mantis

The female praying mantis is also famous for consuming its mate once the mating is complete. And similar to male black widow spiders, the male mantis also sacrifices himself.

Tigers

While not their own, Tigers are believed to kill and eat the cubs of others when their pack is threatened. It is also said that when a new male tiger takes over, he does so to establish his dominance.

Chickens

While not many incidents have been heard, it is believed that when in stress, or when the conditions of the farm are not apt, the mother hen can peck and kill her own babies.

Guppies

Guppies are small fishes that are known to eat their young. When an aquarium gets overcrowded, or when in the wild there aren’t enough food sources, the mother might consume their young.

Polar bears

While reports of this too is rare, there have been incidents where male Polar bears ate the younger ones when food was scarce. Just in 2020, a video went viral where a Polar bear had his mouth smeared with blood as he ate a young cub.

Sand tiger sharks

Sand tiger sharks are known to eat up their own siblings while they are all still in the mother’s womb! According to research, this ensures that only the strongest few survive.
